Monetize Your Blog

Top 10 Ways To Monetize Your Blog

Blogging is taking the internet by storm, people express, share experiences and discuss their views. We even categorize blogs based via niches, we have business, lifestyle, fashion, food and entertainment blogs and probably many more.

Even though many bloggers enjoy sharing their experiences, we value are time and effort and deserve credit.

Will share my personal top 10 ways to monetize your blog

1. Google Adsense & Similar

Google AdSense is a program run by Google that allows publishers in the Google Network of content sites to serve automatic text, image, video, or +++interactive media advertisements, that are targeted to site content and audience. These advertisements are administered, sorted, and maintained by Google. They can generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis.

Its relatively easy to install banner/text adverting on your blog/website with Google Adsence. You can either add code to your footer, header and widget or install a plugin. Both have there pros and cons, but personally like adding the code to html/text widget via WordPress.

In order to get the code you first must create what google labels an “ad unit”, name this unit for example “Website Name Footer”. Next is choosing the ad size, since the example is footer you want to choose either 728×90 or 460×60. Now select whether you want image, text or both.

The next step is to choose how your ads are going to look, honesty would choose “Minimalist”.

The next step would be more suitable for people that have multiple websites. Custom channels help you group various ad units by size or location. You have the ability to track the performance by custom channel, and in turn have your channel become targetable placement for advertisers.

Revenue Hits

This is another service similar to Google Adsense, but heard from many people it’s better. I have used this before so can give you my honest opinion.

This service has more ad types then Adsense and you have the choice how to make your money via CPA, CPI, CPL and CPM. I however couldn’t find the option on my account, so you might have to contact them.

They ensure 100% fill rate, With 2 billion ad impressions every day, it is able to guarantee you a 100% fill rate across all geographic regions. This allows you to monetize in any country.

Revenue offer your website visitors relevant offers based on your content. Their algorithm learns from your results and regularly improves your performance in real time.

Creating An Ad Placement On Revenue Hits

1. Once you register, click placements and then new placements.

2. Select a placement type, they have many to choose from you can pick between banner, button, footer, interstitial, popunder, shadow box, slider and topbar.

3. Naming your placement and picking which website you want it on. Pick the size of your placement and write a little description.

4. The next step is adding the code to your html/text widget or directly in the code if your experienced with html.

2. Sell Advertising On Your Website

This is similar to inserting banners/text ads via adsense & revenue hits, but the difference is you can list your website on banner networks..below are some interesting networks/tools to look into.

BuySellAds – Once your website/blog gets approved it will be listed on their marketplace. Once their you will be able to enter the amount your ad space is worth, but keep in mind BuySellAds takes 25% from your income and pays out the remaining 75% to you.

OIOPublisher – This is an ads manager that helps you maximize your revenue and saves you time. Have complete control of your ad space and keep 100% of your income. If there is no one using your ad space have your own code be viewed so your not wasting your time.

BlogAds – Blogads is a good alternative if you get rejected from BuySellAds, they take 30% of your income and give you 70%. I would still consider looking into this network because they brag about having a lot of advertisers.

Adhitz – This is another banner ad network, earn 70% from site specific ads and 70% from network ads, but this one is based on cpc rates so if someone clicks and pays 0.18 cents you will get 70% on that amount. The rate is different per location so if you plan of using this network do some research.

3. Include Affiliate Links In Blog Posts

This is another awesome way to earn some commissions if you already using Adsense or Revenue Hits. Depending on the niche your blog is in you will be able to find affiliate programs.

For instance, say your blog is about health in general. You can register to be an affiliate for health related products like Organifi and write about your experience using it and include your affiliate link and make commissions that way.

You can even write a whole review of the product, to make it more targeted and rank better for the keywords like “Organifi review’. Writing a whole review would be much more beneficial..

4. Selling Solo Ads ( Must Have List)

This methods requires you to have an email list that you’ve built using opt-in forms on your blog. Once your blog get popular enough and you have a big list, people will contact you to promote their business to your audience.

The average solo ad price is $50 for 100 unique clicks, so you can imagine already your income from this is you have interested buyers. The more responsive your list is the more money you can charge for a solo ad, but would keep it reasonable at the same time.

The last thing you want is those people take their business else where….If your not sure how to get email lists for your business

5. Use Patreon

Patreon is an Internet-based platform that allows content creators to build their own subscription content service. It is popular among YouTubecontent creators, webcomic artists, writers, podcasters, musicians, and other categories of creators who post regularly online.[1] It allows artists to receive funding directly from their fans, or patrons, on a recurring basis or per work of art. So if your the type of website owner that hate showing banners or doesn’t like selling solo ads, then give Patreon a try. Signup and send your viewers to your page where they can support you.

Your probably saying this isn’t monetizing your blog, but I beg to differ. Your have your blog visitors support you for your writing skills, which gets published on your blog for people to read.

Their is also a plugin that adds a button under your content to let your visitors become your Patreons on Patreon. Which is fully customizable so if you just want a side widget you can.

6. Charge For Guest Posts

If you are going to charge money for blog posts, not only do you need to be aware that many media companies will report your site as being paid for advertising, but you may also need to declare the income on your taxes.  What you don’t want is to have a letter come from the IRS asking for their money. Source

Its important for you and the buyer to have an understanding of the conditions of the advertising, for example how long post or link will be live for, xxx of views, if xxx doesn’t get reached is their a refund etc…

This method in my opinion is not worth the time and effort. Soo much has to go into setting this up and if something goes wrong then the buyer get refunded, but if your still really interested about this method click source above.

7. CBProAds

This service provides you easy access to the multiple Clickbank products, by embedding your affiliate link into cbproads code which is used on your website or blog. Their many advertising types to choose from like the most popular one in our case would be banner ads.

You choose banner ads, then  pick categories based on your blog niche. Then you will be asked to choose a banner size, there are many to choose from. Then you will be asked to create a channel, which is basically making a group called “YourBlogName”. Then the final step would be to generate your script and add it into your html widget on WordPress.

Now you will display a banner that auto rotates Clickbank products with your affiliate link and have the products target your niche.

Important – There is a free membership, but it’s really limited. Your Clickbank link is only embedded 50% of the time and if your pro its 100%. I’m a lifetime pro member and it was well worth the one time fee.

8. Consulting

Another very popular method on monetizing your blog. Say your blog is about search engine optimization, you could charge xxx amount for a skype session where you discuss seo strategies. Its also a bonus to you send your client a full report via email on how to improve their search engine rankings or something similar regarding seo .

As an example, Jim’s Marketing Blog sells sessions that are 2 hours long, where anyone who pays his amount can pick his brain about marketing tactics.

9. Create Your Own eBook

Writing an eBook is very common way to generate an income and its easier then ever with many platforms to publish on like Amazon, EBay and many more. You can even promote your eBook via your blog, buy how much can you actually make from this.

Your probably thinking to yourself that, “ I’m not well-known yet”. You can still make some money, for example Steve Gillman reported on The Penny Hoarder that he has generated about $2000 from his eBook about ultralight backpacking that he wrote in just a few days..

10. Donation Widget

This is similar to patreon, but the difference is you can add a PayPal, Bitcoin, Payza or credit card widget so your visitors can donate if they find your content worth their time.

This methods is preferred if you don’t have many visitors, but they are engaging nonetheless.

Here is a setup guide from PayPal on how to had a donation widget/button to your blog or website.
